Makerspace, Ipswich Libraries
Makerspaces are located inside some Ipswich Libraries' branches. They are dedicated areas for interactive and creative technologies.
These spaces allow the community to get up close and personal with cutting edge digital technology and bring people together to use technology in hands-on displays of exploration, innovation and education.
Makerspace offers 'Book-a-Champion' sessions to teach the basics of 3D printing and modelling. These sessions allow members of the library to make the most of the technologies available in the libraries and grow their creative and digital skills.
Rotating challenges and programs feature within the Makerspace for library members to create fun designs with the assistance of the Makerspace staff. These challenges have included both digital and analogue crafts.
The Ipswich Libraries' makerspace was opened in 2017 in the former Ipswich Central Library located on South Street. Makerspaces are currently located at Ipswich Central, Springfield Central and Rosewood Libraries, with each offering different interactive experiences, including Virtual Reality and 3D printing.
