Goebels Road, No 270, Mutdapilly

Johann Dreier, born at Wesselburen in Germany in 1826, moved to Australia with his wife Elizabeth Margaretha (nee Jensen) and their four children. He purchased 111 acres and 3 perches of land in the County of Churchill, Parish of Mutdapilly in 1868. 

Johann and Elizabeth's eldest son Peter, who had worked as a drover, later went on to help his father run the farm. The land was transferred to Peter Dreier on 1 May 1888 and he expanded the holdings between 1891 and 1899, purchasing adjoining land.

Elizabeth Margaretha Dreier (nee Jensen) died on 5th February 1895 and Johann died on 30th January 1903.

Subsequent owners were: George William August Drier (1934); Ernest Christian Rosentreter (1939), William Joseph Chamberlain (1945), and  Martin Purtill (1950).  On 6 June 1953 the land, buildings, stock and implements were advertised as a 'Clearing Sale' at Mt Forbes. For health reasons, he was selling 208 acres of land and buildings included were an 8 room house in excellent condition, hay shed, harness room, barn, milking shed, dairy and piggeries.

Carl Herman Profke purchased the property in 1953, followed by John James Clarry and his wife Shirley Winsome Clarry (1969) and Noel Frederick Riley and Joan Cockburn as joint tenants (1971).

Built in approximately 1900, this is a low-set timber house with open verandahs. The house is set back from the road in a complex which includes outbuildings, stables and horse training track. The house has a main hipped roof which is separated from the curved verandah roof. The timber verandah posts retain their original bracket detailing but the balustrading is not original. External walls have exposed stud framing, lined on the inside, with beaded joint tongue and groove boarding. The roof is corrugated galvanised iron. The house is supported on timber stumps. The kitchen wing with separate hipped roof extends at the rear and the original cream shed and cow bails are at the rear.
