Royal George Hotel

The Royal Hotel was built in the 1890s and sits on a 1 302 m² allotment on the corner of John Street and originally Vance Lane (later changed to Royal George Lane). A fire in October 1933, caused significant damage to the building, but it was repaired and remains one of 3 pubs in Rosewood. The name was changed to the Royal George Hotel. If you look carefully, you might see the hitching rings on the veranda posts.

Bore Drilling behind the Royal George, 1947

The Royal George Hotel has had numerous owners since it was built in the 1890s. On 11 August 1947, Licensee Mr Warwick Leeson employed the services of Mr A Kleidon to sink a bore at the back of the hotel. At a depth of 87 ft, water was struck and at 92 ft, the water sprayed 40 ft. This reliable water quality was valued at a time when water had to be carried from Amberley as there wasn’t a supply in Rosewood.

Today, the Royal George Hotel provides a relaxing atmosphere at its restaurant or bar, offering a snack, a meal, a cold drink at the bar, or a cup of tea or coffee.
