Vogue Newsagency
Vogue Newsagency was located a short distance from the Vogue Theatre on Brisbane Street and perhaps derived its name from this theatre. It seems that the newsagency existed from at least 1957 however the theatre met its demise soon after that date and its building was removed from the site sometime between 1958-1962.
In 1961 Vogue Newsagency was located at 57 Brisbane Street. In 1964 it was described as being at the corner of Brisbane & Wharf Streets, opposite Modern Motors.
Vogue Newsagency survived floods and changing times in Ipswich to remain trading for at least 61 years. When it finally closed its doors in April 2018, the business was owned and operated by Mike Boyland who had been the proprietor for nearly 40 years. In 2011 the shop was inundated up to the roof by floodwaters. Repairs, renovations and recovery from this disaster took 7 months with the business re-opening in August 2011. At this time the shop's address was 55 Brisbane Street. With the Marsden Parade re-routing and upgrade occurring 2018-2019 the shop building disappeared.
