Thorn Street, No. 51, Ipswich

Charles Watkins purchased Allotment 5 of Section 38 on 10 November 1862. The original deed of Grant 5393 was issued to Charles Watkins on 23 April 1863. Known as Charlie, he was a hotel-keeper, auctioneer and an alderman on the first Ipswich Municipal Council. Later referred to as Old Charley, he died at his home in South Street, near Market Square in October 1876 at the age of 75.

The Ipswich Water Works Plan dated 18 January 1876 shows that there was a small building on the site at that time. The Poochee Panorama of 1865 shows small residential buildings in the far left hand corner in the foreground below Denmark Hill. It is possible that the house at 51 Thorn Street is visible in that image.

James Doonan became the owner of the land in Thorn Street in January 1882 and just over two years later a new Title was issued to William Hayward.

Cunningham Davis was the third owner with the transfer to him, occurring in June 1906. He took out a mortgage for £30. After the death of Cunningham, the property transferred to his widow, Annie Davis and a Bill of Mortgage was taken out to be paid by 1911.

In 1912, Alice Schultz wife of George Carl Schultz became the owner and a mortgage for £90 was taken out. Alice Ann Schultz married Robert Ridgway Campbell on 6 June 1919. The next owner was Bertie James Boulter in 1944, followed by Arthur James Leisemann and Normal Celestine Leisemann in 1958.
