DescriptionGlobal Arts Link (GAL) was a new visual arts and social history museum situated in the oldest town hall in Queensland.
GAL had lots to see and do, mainly about art and history, but also about the heritage of the old building. The hall was renovated and new additions added in 1998 and 1999. GAL opened to the public in May 1999.
The Hall of Time looked at Ipswich's history through a number of exhibits including, The Time Machine, The Modern Athens, In the Ring, Mission Life, Heritage Trails and Seven Nightly News Global Lounge.

Warp back through Ipswich's past and experience the bizarre and wonderful events that shaped people's lives.
A totally unique way of exploring nearly five hundred events from Ipswich’s history. Starting at the time of the birth of the Town Hall (then School of Arts), visitors can find out about the trivial and monumental events which have occurred not only in the hall, but also in Ipswich, the State, country and world. What effect did Ipswich have further afield? You can get some idea here.
Pick a favourite decade, look at the ‘second level’ events for more detail; find something funny, bizarre or touching to share with visitors. They can explore by theme too.
(Just for starters, in the late 1940s there are a series of extracts from a great film called the “New Ipswich.”)
Two independent displays provide the same programme so twice as many visitors can have a go at one time.
The multimedia interactive is surrounded by display cabinets featuring interesting objects from our community’s history (and bottom drawer!).
The time machine was removed from the gallery in September or October 2005.
