DescriptionThe Ipswich Threads exhibition begins the celebrations of the city’s woollen textile manufacturing heritage. Ipswich was the centre of this Queensland industry from its beginnings in 1874 to its final closure in 1994.
International Rhode Island artist, Deborah Baronas curated the exhibition at the Firestation 101. Deborah’s work focuses on visual interpretations of industrial heritage, and is also a former textile designer for mills throughout US and Europe. Her translucent artworks cleverly bring factory scenes to life.
Ipswich Threads was a preview of the mill exhibition to come in 2024, a mix of multimedia, poetry and fibre arts.
