Description

GenderMaleMaleLife Story

Sam Young wrote to the Ipswich Municipal Council in September 1889, informing them that he was going to establish a garden in West Ipswich and he wanted to know the cost of the water rate. He noted that he would not make a lot of money from his vegetables in the first year and was hoping that a lower rate would be charged. Council resolved that 'the proposition should not be entertained'.

Charlie Ten and Sam Young placed a notice in the Queensland Times on 7 Sept 1889 to Mr. Seddon, on behalf of themselves and their countrymen thanking him for the Welcome Tea in the Salvation Army Barracks and for Mr. Seddon's interest in the Chinese people of Ipswich.

Sam acted as an interpreter for his fellow countrymen when they appeared in Court.
