Description
DescriptionThe Webb Brothers were a country music band from Widgee, Gympie. Their ancestral home is Thornside station which was founded by their grandfather, George, in 1882.
Brothers Berard, Marius, and Fabian Webb formed a family country music band and with such songs as 'Call of the Bellbird', 'Guilty', 'This Road', The Purple Petrol eater', and 'Who put the Roo in the Stew?', the later was released in 1981 as 'The Colonel put the Lickin' in the Chicken but who put the Roo in the Stew?' and was written in commentary of a scandal regarding the undisclosed presence of kangaroo meat in hamburger mince exported into Australia.
The Webb Brothers, in conjunction with the Gympie arm of the Apex Club, founded the popular Gympie Music Muster, a country music fundraising festival which donates to community groups and charities. The first Muster, held on Thornside Station in 1982, was a celebration of the centenary of their property and of the Webb Brothers' win of the Top Selling Golden Guitar award from the Country Music Awards in Tamworth. The brothers would go on to win the Top Selling Golden Guitar award a second time.
Eldest brother, Fabian, was a councillor of the Kilkivan Shire and founded the Kilkivan Great Horse Ride in 1986.References (online)The Webb Brothers - Gympie Music Muster - [accessed 20 November 2023]About the Ride - Kilkivan Great Horse Ride - [Accessed 20 November 2023]The Webb Brothers - Kimbo - History of Australian Music from 1960 until 2000 - 6 September 2013 - [Accessed 20 November 2023]The Gympie Music Muster - History of Country Music in Australia - [Accessed 20 November 2023]Brothers Remembered - The Catholic Leader - 30 June 2015 - [Accessed 20 November 2023]Bush Boys with the Beat - Marjorie Stapleton - The Australian Women's Weekly - 30 December 1959 - [Accessed 20 November 2023]About Us - Gympie Music Muster - [Accessed 20 November 2023]Webb Brothers' country music legacy remembered - Gympie Times - 2 February 2015 - [Accessed 20 November 2023]
