Description
DescriptionTHE COALSTARS FOOTBALL CLUB:
In 1964, the Coalstars Football Club (also known as the Coalstars Soccer Club and the Bundamba Coalstars) was formed by the amalgamation of the Blackstone Rovers Football Club and the Bundamba Rangers Football Club.
In 1997, the Coalstars amalgamated with the St. Helen's United Football Club (also knowns as the St. Helens United Soccer Club) to form the Ipswich Knights Football Club.
THE BLACKSTONE ROVERS FOOTBALL CLUB:
In 1888, the Blackstone Rovers Football Club was founded and it was the first Anglo-Queensland Football Association team in Ipswich. The Anglo-Queensland Football Association was founded in May 1884 in order to organise and develop the sport of football/soccer in Queensland. The Anglo-Queensland Football Association met annually and by 1886, there had been a challenge to Queensland players to play in Sydney from the British Football Association in New South Wales which could not be accepted due to the early stages of development of the game. In 1889, the Anglo-Queensland Football Association was renamed to the Queensland British Football Association.
In 1896, the Blackstone Rovers did not play other teams in competition, but its players joined the newly formed Ipswich Rovers Football Club, which would change its name to the Blackstone Rovers in 1899.
THE BUNDAMBA RANGERS FOOTBALL CLUB:
In 1894, the Bundamba Rangers Football Club was founded. Bundamba was originally known as Bundanba in 1879, a compound of the Ugarapul language words 'bundan' (stone axe) and 'ba' (place of), but was officially changed to Bumdamba in 1932. The Bundamba Rangers were also known as the Bundanba Rangers until 1932.
In 1895, the Bundamba Rangers merged with the Coursers Football Club, which was founded in 1894. The Rangers took over the Coursers soccer ground as its home ground.
In 1936, the Bundamba Rangers merged with the Bergin's Hills Rosebells Football Club, which was founded in 1908.
In 1941, the Bundamba Rangers merged with the New Bundamba Rangers. The New Bundamba Rangers Club was founded in 1940 in response to the Bundamba Rangers and St. Helens Soccer clubs choosing not to play in competition that year due to players not being available during World War II. The New Rangers included players from interstate.References (online)History of Ipswich Football (Soccer) - Clubs - [accessed 7 August 2023]New Soccer Club at Bundamba - The Telegraph - 19 March 1940 - [accesses 7 August 2023]Sportographs - Rovers were Roamers - T.
