DescriptionIrishman John Wright arrived in Brisbane in 1867 and worked with Harry Hooper and John Robinson, who were among those who began coal mining in Tivoli in the 1860s. In 1873 Wright began mining independently and founded the Eclipse mine in 1876. He owned 'Oakland’ at 100 Mt Crosby Road, Tivoli. In 1890, Richard, one of the Wright’s sons was killed in a mine accident at the Eclipse Mine at Tivoli, and in 1893, during the flood Wright’s two eldest sons, Thomas and George, along with five other men and the Eclipse mine were lost. Isabella Wright was born in March 1883, purportedly the same month as F. A. Whitehead opened his photography studio.
