DescriptionThis gavel was kindly donated by Cr John Nugent, OAM, Mayor of the City of Ipswich. During heavy debate at a Council Meeting in 1997, the gavel was being used by Mayor John Nugent; trying to control the debate, the Mayor used so much force banging the gavel on the top table that a chip flew off and hasn't been found to this day. Additional Information This artefact was included in the Ipswich Global Information Centre Time Capsule (Ipswich Library) in 1998.
