Description
QT Image CaptionLUNCH break was a sandwich in the hand for volunteers at the Amberley RAAF Base on Saturday after they had loaded about 500 bales of grass for transport to starving stock.DescriptionDue to a shortage of feed for cattle stock in Toogoolawah, the RAAF base in Amberley donated the grass growing on its land for cutting and volunteers donated their time to cut, bale, and transport the resulting hay.
The effort was organised by the Lions Club, spearheaded by Lions Project Coordinator Bert Hooper.
The Massey Ferguson group and local representative Graham Keidge donated the use of a tractor, baler, and a rake. Transportation of the machinery was donated by Jackson's transport.
The harvest over the weekend produced 1250 bales of hay, most of which was good Rhodes grass, weighing in at 38 tonnes. 1750 more bales were expected to be able to be harvested from the Amberley base. 500 bales of hay were loaded up for transport by the end of the weekend.
