DescriptionThis prominent two-storey house at 1 Burnett Street, was built in brick with a slate roof. It was built in the 1870's by the early settler William Berry. It stood on the track between Ipswich and Little Ipswich, now West Ipswich. By World War II, it was divided into flats, with verandas sheeted in fibro. The house was renovated in 1975 and cast iron panels from the Bank of New South Wales, formerly on the corner of East and Brisbane Streets, and demolished in 1957, were installed around the upper level verandas. It became a shelter for homeless youth in 1984. It is now a private residence.
