DescriptionJudith Durham (Born Judith Mavis Cock) was an Australian soprano singer and songwriter. She and Ron Edgeworth, a British pianist, were married in 1969.
In the 1960s, Judith was the lead singer of the pop musical group The Seekers, which was the first Australian band to reach the top of the USA and UK music charts.
The Seekers was made up of members Athol Guy, Keith Potger, and Bruce Woodley when Judith joined in 1963. In their early career, The Seekers specialised in folk ballads including Waltzing Matilda..
In March 1964, The Seekers took the position of cruise performers for a Sitmar Line ship on its journey from Melbourne, Australia to the United Kingdom.
In 1965, The Seekers single 'I'll Never Find Another You', written and produced by Tom Springfield of the British pop music ground The Springfields, rose to the number one position on the UK and Australian charts, and the number four position on the USA charts.
Judith struck out as a solo artist in 1968 and began working with Ron Edgeworth. Judith and Ron toured and performed together.
In 1979, Judith and Rob released an album called 'The Hot Jazz Duo'.
In 1993, Judith rejoined The Seekers for the group's silver jubilee.
In 1994, Ron died of complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a motor neuron disease
In 1995, Judith and the other members of The Seekers were awarded the medal of the Order of Australia.
In 2000, Judith sang 'The Carnival is Over' at the close of the Sydney Paralympic Games.
