Reids purchased Ipswich department store Cribb & Foote in 1972. Originally London Stores owned by Benjamin Cribb and opened in 1849, a partnership with John Clarke Foote in 1854 produced the long-running business of Cribb & Foote. It was eventually re-named and became known as Reids in 1977.
On 17 August 1985 the iconic store was destroyed by fire. As a temporary measure Reids was re-located to the Old Town Hall just across Brisbane Street, until new premises could be constructed in the developing retail centre Ipswich City Square. Reids did not survive to move to the new shopping area, closing before the end of its lease.
