Historical Silhouettes
The concept of establishing a Historical Silhouette program in Ipswich with two dimensional figures with an historical theme was first raised in 2014.
Research undertaken online revealed that this form of installation has been adopted on both an international and national level. The research showed that these figures can play an important role in marking places of historical interest in a visually engaging way, where people will also interact with the figures such as having their photographs taken with them. As well as being a way to mark historical sites they also contribute as a piece of public art in the places they have been installed.
The first silhouette to be installed was of Park Curator, Alexander Munro in Queens Park near the Visitor Information Centre. Descendants of Alexander Munro attended the unveiling of the silhouette on 3 July 2019.
