DescriptionRichard John Kendall (c. 1803 - 1895) was a member of the Kendall family and lived in Ipswich. He married Fanny Harriet Kendall (nee Wheeler) (1822-1914).
Richard applied to the headmaster position of Ipswich Grammar School in 1863 but was unsuccessful. The school opened that year and Stuart Hawthorne was selected to be the first headmaster of the school. Richard was offered and accepted a position of master on the teaching staff, though it is unknown which subject or subjects he taught.
After Richard's wife's brother Edmund Wheeler (1826-1870) and Edmund's wife Clara Wheeler (nee Meares) ( -1872) died, their son Dr James Atkin Wheeler (1861-1939) came to live with Richard and Fanny in Kendall Street, which was named after the Kendall family. James was awarded a scholarship to Ipswich Grammar School.
In February of 1869, Richards was appointed as Town Clerk for the Municipality of Ipswich. He would retire from the position in 1891
By 1874, Richard was appointed as Treasurer of the Ipswich Auxiliary of the British and Foreign Bible Society.
He was a member on the Ipswich Hospital Committee by 1880.
