She completed nursing training and was listed in the 1891 Census as a District Nurse in East Nuneaton, United Kingdom.
In 1893, Lillah married her cousin, Dr James Atkin Wheeler (1861-1939), in St Paul's Anglican Church, Ipswich, Queensland. She had four children: Dorothy Constance (Dors) Wheeler (1895-1988), Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Greenfield (nee Wheeler) (1897-1982), Edmund George Brumwell (Brum) Wheeler (1899 – 1970), and Francis James Kendall (Ken) Wheeler (1901 – 1973).
