Description
DescriptionFanny Kendall (nee Wheeler) (1822-1914) was born in the United Kingdom in 1822. Before arriving in Australia, she worked as a school mistress at a boarding school in Chelmsford, Essex, though it is unknown which school it was.
Fanny travelled to Australia on the ship 'Maidstone' in 1858, where she landed at Port Phillip. She came with her brother, Edmund Wheeler (1826-1870), and his family.
Fanny married Richard John Kendall (c.1803 - 1895), who was a master, or teacher, at Ipswich Grammar School, Town Clerk for the Municipality of Ipswich, and a Warden of St Paul's Anglican Church.
After her brother Edmund and Edmund's wife Clara Wheeler (nee Meares) ( -1872) died, their son Dr James Atkin Wheeler (1861-1939) came to live with Richard and Fanny. James was awarded a scholarship to Ipswich Grammar School.
They lived in 'Rosalie', the Kendall family home, at 2B Kendall Street, East Ipswich, Ipswich, Queensland. The street was named after the family. This house, 'Rosalie', has been demolished. A new house was built on the property in 1951 with timbers from the Verrall home at Aratula.Additional Information Image qips-2022-10-17-0002 is a studio portrait taken in Brisbane through Albert Lomer Studio photography studio circa 1873.
