DescriptionThe male ward of the Ipswich Hospital. The Ipswich Hospital was one of the first public hospitals in Queensland, opening in March 1860 following community fundraising. The male ward was demolished in 1982 as part of the hospital’s redevelopment.
This photo appeared in The People, Products, and Industries of West Moreton, Queensland, in 1899. 5000 of the 10,000 copies of the book, printed by the Queensland Times, were sent to England as part of an immigration scheme to attract new residents to the area. It is thought that Taylor photographed all or most of the images appearing in the 120 page publication.
