David Semphill arrived in New South Wales in 1831 and was listed in the New South Wales Census of 1837 for the district of Bathurst.
He received a number of Tickets of Leave:
- In 1843 on the recommendation of the Brisbane Bench.
- In 1845 on the recommendation of the Brisbane Bench.
On 1 March 1848, David received a Conditional Pardon.
He received his Ticket-of-Leave in November 1858. His freedom was short lived when his Colonial Ticket of Leave was cancelled in 1859 for being absent from muster in Ipswich and he was considered to be illegally at large.
