John Wilson was one of many prisoners of the Crown per the ship 'Bangalor' to receive a Ticket of Leave (TOL) for the district of Moreton Bay. John was granted a Ticket of Leave for Ipswich in 1858.

His Ticket of Leave was cancelled the following year for being absent from muster at Ipswich.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported on 10 May 1858:

John Williams, alias John Wilson, was indicted for having, on the 28th January 1858, at Brisbane, falsely pretended to one Jane Skinner that a bank cheque for 1 pound 5s was a cheque for 15 pounds, but was acquitted. After the trial, the chief constable stated to his Honour that prisoner came from Cockatoo in August, 1856, for the district of Ipswich. He was out of his district here. He was accordingly sentenced to imprisonment for six months, with hard labour.
