Goldstines - Watchmakers and Jewellers

T. B. Lyons had taken over Thomas Given's jewellery business at the corner of Brisbane & Nicholas Streets in 1868.

Following T. B. Lyons'  death in 1895 Lewis Goldstine took over his jewellery business. It was located in Brisbane Street, opposite the School of Arts. Goldstine already had a jewellery business in Queen Street, Brisbane so a manager was appointed. Goldstine was a watchmaker and manufacturing jeweller.

In February 1899  liquidation for Lewis Goldstine's estate was filed and a liquidation sale ensued in April 1899. However from about March 1899 D. Goldstine begins trading as a jeweller and watchmaker in premises that are opposite the Queensland Times in Brisbane Street. Advertising for this business maintains that it has "no connection with the old shop". D. Goldstine would occupy these premises until 1907 when Barry & Roberts expanded into the  space.

In 1912 David Goldstine's shop is described as being located in Brisbane Street, midway between Nicholas and Ellenborough Streets. In 1920 the store was either in Empire Chambers or next door to it, providing access to The People's Investment Co. Ltd. 

In 1931 David Goldstine is described as the owner of the business and his brother Mark/Marcus as the manager. Brothers Lewis, David and Mark were all associated with the jewellery store.

Around 1932 the business starts to advertise optical services as well as jewellery & watch making. This appears to become L. Goldstine's Optical Parlour, for sight testing, watch repairs, jewellery and spectacles repairs.  It was located opposite St Pauls and opposite the Queensland Times, upstairs over the old shop. This business exists until 1935 but its fate is unknown after that time. Lewis Goldstine died in 1936.
