Miss Amy Hoare's Ladies and Children's Clothing & Homemade Sweets

Amy Hoare's shop commenced trading in February 1911 in Brisbane Street selling neckwear, gloves, hosiery, belts for women and children's collars.

In 1915 the shop moved to larger premises in Nicholas Street, next to Fleischmann's saddle and harness makers. The 1918 Block Map - Ellenborough, Brisbane, Nicholas & Union Streets shows her establishment located beside McQueen Boot Palace with Fleischmann's on the other side. In 1919 the architect Martin William Haenke had his office upstairs. 

In 1923 Miss Hoare took over the marble bar owned by T. H. Thomas at the corner of Nicholas & Brisbane Streets, (almost) opposite the town hall and re-named it Rose Tea Rooms, selling soft drinks, confectionery and light lunches.  

In 1930 Miss Hoare auctioned the business, plant and fittings and retired from her Nicholas Street business due to ill health. She lived in Kennedy Street, West Ipswich.
