DescriptionThe Art Gallery was originally the School of Arts building (later the Town Hall), beside the Bank of Australasia building. At the time of this photograph the buildings were owned by the Ipswich Council. The rates office was in the Bank of Australasia with the library in the building behind the bank building. (The clock in the School of Arts building was erected by January 8, 1879. For some years, there were two tower clocks side by side (the Post Office clock was built in 1901), until the one from the School of Arts was removed and became the town clock in the former Council Chambers at Sandgate, Brisbane.References (offline)Information taken from Ipswich Municipal Centenary by Leslie E.
