DescriptionLes Heineman, thought to be in his personal greenhouse at his residence in Alice Street, Silkstone, where Les lived with his wife, Margaret.
Les was an orchid enthusiast and member of the Australian Orchid Council as well as the Ipswich Orchid Society. Les and Margaret won an award for their entry into the Australian Orchid Council competition with their Cattlianthe Bullion 'Margo' on the 9th of June 1980.
Les was an employee at the Swanbank Power Station and a member of the Bluebird Concert Party Band. Though not a founding member of the band, Les was a member during the 1950s when the Bluebirds played to raise money for local causes. By 1961, the Bluebirds Band had raised approximately 4000 pounds, which converts to around $139 300 in 2023 Australian currency.
The Bluebirds also played for patients at Goodna Mental Hospital, also known as Woogaroo Asylum, and would travel far to entertain small towns such as Rosevale.
