2009 Design, Heritage, Environment and Student Awards

The eighteenth Annual Awards for Excellence in Design, Heritage, Environment and Student categories was held on Tuesday, 18 August 2009 at the Ipswich Civic Centre. The guest speaker was the Governor of Queensland, Ms. Penelope Wensley AO who also presented the awards. The Master of Ceremonies was Ashleigh Mac.

The Overall Award winners were:

• The Overall Heritage Award: 'Bethany House' - Salvation Army Riverview Farm for restoration
• The Overall Design Award: 'Queens Park Environmental Education Centre' - J M Pearce Architects, T P Turner Pty Ltd and Osborne Lane 
• The Overall Environment Award: 'Koala Habitat Revegetation, Protection, Rescue and Rehabilitation' - Ipswich Koala Protection Society Inc
• The Overall Student Award: 'Land for Wildlife' Project - Karalee State School

Amex Corporation Design Awards

• A Gold Award was presented to J. M. Pearce Architects Pty Ltd Osborn Lane and T. P, Turner Pty Ltd for 'Queens Park Environmental Education Centre'
• A Silver Award was presented to Motorcycling Queensland, Leith Architects and Ray White Constructions for the 'Commercial Office Building, 8 Gordon Street, Ipswich'
• A Silver Award was presented to Neylan Architecture, Renard Group, Mocoris Pty Ltd and Integral Constructions for the' George Thorn Centre'

Ron Brown Heritage Awards

• A Gold Award was presented to the Salvation Army Riverview Farm for 'Restoration of Bethany House'
• A Silver Award was presented for 'Bremer House', 1 Johnstone Street, Sadliers Crossing
• A Certificate of Merit was presented for 'Claremont II', 5 Blackall Street, East Ipswich
• A Certificate of Merit was presented to Joyce Phillips for her publication 'Old Ipswich Days: Joshua Peter Bell and the Ipswich Connection'

The National Trust Best Maintained Property Award

Enviroplan Environment Awards

• A Gold Award was presented to Ruth Lewis and members of the Ipswich Koala Protection Society Inc for 'Koala Habitat Revegetation, Protection, Rescue and Rehabilitation'
• A Gold Award was presented to Queensland Rail Services Rolling Stock and Component Services Redbank for 'Water Management Innovations for a Sustainable System'
• A Silver Award was presented to Springfield Land Corporation, Hutchinson Builders, Haysom Architects and Coffey Projects for 'Water Management Innovations for a Sustainable System'

Student Awards

• A Gold Award was presented to Cheryl Charlton and students from Karalee State School for their 'Land for Wildlife project'
• A Gold Award was presented to Chris Sarra and students from Woodcrest State School for the 'Garden of Hope'
