Collingwood Park
Collingwood Park is a suburb of Ipswich in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia.
Collingwood Park is 11 kilometres east of the Ipswich CBD. Its eastern boundary is delineated by Goodna Creek and the western boundary by Six Mile Creek.
The suburb was named and bounded on 28 August 1982. Surrounding suburbs are Redbank, Goodna, Camira, Springfield, and Augustine Heights. Housing development began around 1980 and the main thoroughfare is Collingwood Drive. In the 2021 census, Collingwood Park had a population of 9,246 people, compared to 7,104 people in 2016, and 6,622 in 2011.
Throughout the 1980s, Collingwood Park was marketed as, "The Dress Circle Suburb of Ipswich". The suburb's name implied a "leafy" residential area which differentiated it from nearby Redbank, the site of several collieries and industries.
Collingwood Park State School opened on 28 January 1986. Woodlinks State School opened on 1 January 2011. A new state high school is being constructed at 50 Jo-Ann Miller Drive, and is expected to open for Year 7 and 8 students for Term 1, 2025.
Collingwood Park and its surrounds are within SWAG (Six Mile, Woogaroo and Goodna Creek) Catchment Area. Over 1300 species of plants, including grass trees and hoop pines, and animals including reptiles, mammals, birds, fish and insects have been recorded, with approximately 90% being native species. Exotic, or introduced, species include: blue billygoat weed, groundsel, Chinese elm, salvinia, lantana, camphor laurel, cane toad, spotted turtle dove, common myna, fox and hare.
Some of the rare, endangered and vulnerable animal species recorded around Collingwood Park include: the Powerful owl (Ninox strenua), Black-chinned honeyeater (Melithreptus gularis), Glossy black cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus lathami) and the Grey goshawk (Accipiter novaehollandiae).
Collingwood Park is home to many parks, including Dodrill Park, Goupong Park and Banjo Patterson Park. In addition, there is the Collingwood Park Reserve which is a 3.5km loop trail popular for birding, hiking, and walking.
Collingwood Park was in the news in 2013 when residents took the Queensland government to court, seeking compensation following subsidence at the Collingwood properties in 2008.
The name Collingwood Park was selected by a developer in 1982, derived from the city and possibly from the football team in Melbourne.
