Ebenezer
The Ebenezer Wesleyan (later Methodist) Church was opened on Sunday 23 April 1871 at Seven Mile Creek and the school and locality took their name from the church.
Ebenezer is a Hebrew word meaning 'Rock of Faith'. Seven Mile Creek State School opened on 2 November 1868. It was renamed Ebenezer State School in 1888 and closed in 1957. Many of the pioneers of the Rosewood, Ebenezer, Jeebropilly and Amberley districts rest in the Stone Quarry Cemetery (previously known as Seven Mile Creek Cemetery). They came in the middle of the 19th Century largely from the United Kingdom and Germany, and established their homes near the Seven Mile where bullock wagons, drays and carts crossed the Bremer River on their way to the Darling Downs. Graves date back to at least the 1880s.
