Frederick Harold Rogers (1911-1977)

Frederick Harold Rogers was born in Ipswich on 10 October 1911. He was the son of Frederick Harold and Elizabeth Rogers (nee Wyatt).

He married Beryl Daisy Meekin on 6 November 1937 in Ipswich.

From 1926 to 1928 Frederick served in the Citizen Forces, todays equivalent of the Australian Army Reserves. He also worked for the Queensland Times as a photographer and proof-reader.

On the 29 January 1942 he enlisted to serve in the Second World War. At the time of his enlistment he was 30 years old. His occupation was listed as a Photographic Dark Room Worker. His physical description states that he was 5 feet, 9 inches tall, had a medium complexion, fair hair and blue eyes. His religion was listed as Methodist. He was married and living with his wife, Beryl Rogers at 8 Rose Street, Eastern Heights, Ipswich.

Frederick served in the Australian Kit Store.

On the 2 October 1943 Frederick was involved in an accident while performing his duties as a soldier. The investigation report states that ‘Rogers sustained severe laceration of skin, subcutaneous tissues, muscle sheaths and muscles of the right lower leg when a US Navy bomb loading truck on which he was riding overturned on Mt Cootha Road at 16:40 hours’. ‘The injuries sustained may cause some weakness of the right ankle and foot, but it is unlikely to impair his future efficiency as a soldier’. ‘There was no negligence, misconduct or failure to observe any act or regulation on the part of Rogers’.

Frederick was discharged from service on 28 November 1945 and he died on 8 October 1977.
