DescriptionBorn at Braughing, Hertfordshire in England in 1819, Sarah married Thomas Wyman in 1843. In 1856 the couple immigrated to Moreton Bay on the “Persia” with their 5 children at the time aged 12 months to 12 years, and 2 of Thomas' nephews aged 19 and 20 years. Her immediate family settled in Ipswich and her husband’s nephews in Tenterfield. One further child, Eliza Elizabeth was born in Ipswich in 1857.

Only 3 years after they’d begun their new life at Ipswich Thomas Wyman died tragically after falling from a horse at Seven Mile Creek. Thomas was a sawyer who worked with a group of local men cutting timber in a 100-mile radius of Brisbane for use in the early colony. With the family breadwinner deceased, the Methodist Church community at Ipswich helped support the family for many years. Sarah lived at Syntax Street with many extended family members in her local neighbourhood and in daily contact. Her eldest daughter Mary Ann married, moved to Hodgson and had 13 children. Her second daughter Emma married twice, had 8 children and ran the Bellevue Hotel with her second husband. Her eldest son Henry married, had 6 children, became a prominent architect and briefly, a Mayor of Ipswich. She nursed her unmarried son Charles through a brief illness he did not survive. Her youngest son George married and moved to Laidley, had 7 children, was the first Mayor of Laidley Town Council in 1902 and established a prosperous general store business there. Her youngest daughter Eliza Elizabeth married the co-owner of a successful Ipswich coach building business and had 6 children.

Sarah died at Southport in 1896 when holidaying with members of her family from Ipswich and was buried at the Ipswich General Cemetery.
