DescriptionBorn in 1855 in Hertfordshire England, Ruth arrived in Moreton Bay on the “Royal Dane” in 1865 with her parents Benjamin and Susan and 3 of her 6 siblings. The family walked to Ipswich and then to “Tupcott” on the Laidley Creek, 2 miles north-west of Laidley. In 1879 Ruth married George Wyman of Ipswich (immigrated 1856). The couple began a family and in 1883 moved to Laidley, where George established a prosperous general store business and in 1902 became the first Mayor of Laidley Town Council.
