Description
DescriptionStudio photograph of photographer Benjamin Hurst Taylor (1857-1916). He opened his first studio in 1883 in Ipswich, with Arthur Mouland. Following Mouland’s departure in 1883, Taylor became one of the first Queensland Colonial Government photographers. In 1893, he opened the I.X.L. Studio in Greenham’s Chambers Nicholas Street, Ipswich, and continued to run the studio until 1914. He was joined by his wife Laura Jane Harris (1857-1931), who was a photographer in her own right. Benjamin and Laura had one daughter, Laura Lydia (1881-1959) who married Ipswich architect and mine owner Will Haenke in 1908, purchasing Rockton House in 1918.
