Barellan Point

Barellan is an aboriginal word meaning 'meeting of the waters'.

The south-west sector of the Karalee area is the suburb of Barellan Point, named after the tongue of land where the Bremer River joins the Brisbane River ('Bremer Junction'). At the point there is the Joseph Brady Park, with a launching place for Bremer River canoe trail.

There was a World War Two R.A.A.F emergency landing and training airfield between Fifth Ave and Stuart Street. A historic site marker commemorating the airfield is now located at the corner of Junction Road and Fifth Avenue.

Barellan Point was named and bounded in 1981 by the Minister for Environment, Valuation and Administrative Services. The area was formerly part of Moreton Shire before amalgamation with Ipswich City Council in 1995.
