Description

DescriptionBilin Bilin was born about 1820, a member of the Yugambeh tribe, in the Logan area. Bilin Bilin (meaning ‘many parrots’) was also known by the names of Jackey Jackey, Kawae Kawae, John Logan, Bilinba, and King of the Logan and Pimpama.

He was taught to read and write English by Lutheran Pastor Haussmann at Bethesda Mission and distributed Bibles among his community (he would charge Haussman 5/- a week to sit and discuss religion with his tribe), although there is no evidence that Bilin Bilin converted to Christianity.

He worked for the white settlers, demanding equality of wages for his people, ensuring his tribe earned £1 per cleared acre of land while maintaining traditional ceremonies.
