Description
DescriptionRobert Neild was born in Crewe, UK in 1857. In 1884 he migrated to Ipswich, with his grandmother, Margaret Adair, at 85, and his family, on the "Chyebassa" Robert became a Deputy Locomotive Engineer at Ipswich Railway Workshops and then the chief mechanical engineer. He lived with his family in the railway manager's house next to the Workshops at North Ipswich. He was highly regarded in the engineering work and he invented the "Neild Brake". He was a well respected citizen of Ipswich, contributing to the business and musical life of the town. He was a member of the Blackstone Cambrian Choir. He moved to Townsville in 1911. Photographers trademarks include: W Moon, Borough Studio, High Street, Crewe UK. R Banks, 73 Market Street and Rembrandt House, Manchester, UK and Kay-Photographer, Lark Hill House, Bolton, UK.
