Description
DescriptionSeries of images of Rockton, showing veranda detail, the garden, and other aspects of the home. The oldest wing of Rockton was a simple brick cottage built in 1855 for William Craies and his family. He was forced to sell Rockton in 1862. It had several owners and occupants until 1877 when it was rented and then bought by Mr E. Bullmore. Bullmore added the second storey, where the 'widows' walk' surrounded by cast-iron lace is a prominent feature. His son-in-law David Armstrong added the tower block From 1916, Rockton was again rented and became run down. In 1918, it was bought by architect Will Haenke who made further changes, improving its liveability and adding some 1920s and 30s details. The house is now occupied by Will Haenke's grand-daughter and her husband.
