Australian Bank of Commerce

In 1910, the Australian Bank of Commerce took over the Australian Joint Stock Bank. The Australian Bank of Commerce was located  on the corner of Brisbane & Bell Streets in Ipswich. 

In 1911, after its change of name and ownership, the bank building underwent alterations and additions under Messrs Wilson and Pickles. The 2 storey wing in the rear was demolished and the main building thoroughly renovated. The strong room was enlarged and the ceilings covered with Wunderlich pressed metal. A new 2 storey brick shop was erected in Brisbane Street adjoining the bank. T. F. Hall the former manager of the Friendly Societies Dispensary in Ipswich opened his own pharmaceutical business in new premises adjoining the Australian Bank of Commerce in 1911. 

Cribb & Foote confectionery department was a close neighbour in 1910. One of B. Martoo's shops was located opposite to the bank in Brisbane Street in 1910.

George Brockwell Gill, the architect, located his office in the  Australian Bank of Commerce building in 1911. 

In 1931, the Australian Bank of Commerce was acquired by the Bank of New South Wales (now Westpac).
