Christmas in Ipswich 2021
Citywide celebrations for Christmas in Ipswich in December 2021 included North Pole installations, suburban light wonderlands, letters to Santa, merry performers, community carols, lighting of the Christmas tree, Santa on Tour and an immersive display in St Nicholas Precinct.
St Nicholas Precinct
In 2021, the revitalised urban heart of Ipswich evoked the spirit of the season with a spectacular lighting installation. The Nicholas Street Precinct was transformed into an experiential atmosphere of lights, colour and magical moments from Friday 10 December to Sunday 19 December.
Christmas Lights Competition and Tours
Entries for the Christmas Lights competition opened on 1 November and closed on 29 November with the lights being on from 1 to 25 December. Categories included: Best Residential, Best Business/Organisation, Best Street, People's Choice, Best New Entry and Best Sustainable. Christmas Lights Tours (coach tours) viewed a selection of the best displays and included a light supper and live performances.
City Christmas Tree
The official turning on of the Christmas Tree took place on 3 December 2021.
Santa on Tour
Santa and his fleet of festive trucks visited suburbs in Ipswich from 1-12 and 17-19 December. With the help of the Mt Forbes Rural Fire Service, Santa and his crew cruised past Christmas lights and stopped at parks and key locations to spread the Christmas cheer.
