DescriptionIpswich Girls' Grammar School opened in February 1892 with an enrolment of 37 students. Irene Carmody taught from 1913-1956. Thalia Kennedy began teaching English and History at the Ipswich Girls Grammar School in January 1942. She was promoted to deputy principal and was then made principal from 1965 to 1981. She introduced Thursday afternoon activities and computer education and appointed a student counsellor. In 1982 the Thalia Kennedy Centre was opened at the school. She was appointed MBE - Member of The Order of the British Empire (Civil) - 13 June 1981 for her service to education and the community.
