DescriptionWilliam Johnson fought in the third battle at Ypres on 20 September 1917 and was badly wounded on the first day. He returned to Australian in February 1917, with two pieces of shell still in his chest. Back of postcard reads: A draft of 25th men, who leave for France tomorrow. Your humble servant is among them also ‘Deady” Fairley, another Ippy (Ipswich) boy. Goodbye to dear old Blighty, tomorrow, for awhile. Best love, Will.
