Plaque Text:
During one phase of his 55 year career, architect George Brockwell Gill developed a fondness for octagonal shapes and used them in a number of delightful houses including the Ipswich Club and Arrochar. The two houses have many features in common.
Arrochar was built early in the 20th Century for accountant and Town Clerk, Albion Haynes and was probably named after the town near Loch Lomond in Scotland. His son Eric was a violinist of international reputation. He went to Germany at the age of 10 to study in Berlin and later played with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In 1914, he toured America with prima donna Madame Evelyn Scotney, a protégé of Dame Nellie Melba.

In 1935, Arrochar was purchased by three sisters Doris, Marjorie, and Sybil Foote and in 1948, it was bought by Ambrose Shaw who had married Marjorie. Surveyor Ian Hargreaves and his wife Binnie became the owners in 1951 and subsequently sold it in 1981 to its present owners.
