Description

DescriptionThe Gasworks was located at The Terrace in North Ipswich. Ipswich Gas and Coke Company laid the first gas mains in May 1877. The first street gas lamps were lit in the same year. By 1960, there were 65 miles of gas mains in Ipswich and suburbs. After natural gas was introduced to Ipswich in 1969, the old brick gasworks was demolished. References (offline)L.E.
