Hallam Family
Peter Hallam
Born c.1812. Peter was a time expired convict. The ‘family oral history’ says that Peter arrived in Queensland with the Leslie Brothers. The family have not found any records to prove this claim but dates and numerous circumstances point to the fact that he may have arrived with one of the early Downs settlers. Peter married Frances Willis (Frann) and they lived at One Mile and Seven Mile. He was a farmer and carrier. There is a Hallam Lane officially signposted outside Rosewood in the vicinity of the land that Peter Hallam owned. An advertisement for the sale of a team of bullocks in the Queensland Times on 15 January 1880 showed that Peter lived at Paradise (near Rosewood Gate), Ipswich.
Peter died on 22 May 1882. Frances Graham Hallam, widow placed a claim for the estate of her husband for transmission of Subdivision 2 of Portion 175 in the Parish of Jeebropilly.
