DescriptionBorn in England, Mr Bottomley came to Australia in 1884. He was employed with the Ipswich butchering firm, Watson Bros. After leaving Watson Bros, he entered in to a butchering partnership with a man at Blackstone, then sold out from this to establish his own business at Bundamba. After being flooded out three times in a fortnight during the 1893 floods, he entered into a new partnership with Mr W. A. Nason in 1894 which he named J. P. Bottomley and Co. Mr Bottomley was the President of the Queensland Agricultural and Industrial Society for four years. He was a Justice of the Peace in the late 1890s. He was a member of the Purga Shire Council for nine years and served as an alderman for two years on the Ipswich City Council. He was a foundation member and president of Ipswich Chamber of Commerce, founder of the Ipswich and West Moreton Mutual Accident Insurance Company, president of the Ipswich Bowls Club in 1915, 1916 and 1917.
