DescriptionShelling corn at Kraatz’s barn. Left to Right: Charles Ballin (owned the husker and sheller) Harry Gerber, two people, Adam Wiegand, August Kraatz (holding pony), Annie Wiegand, Leonard Kraatz, Annie Kraatz, William Kraatz, jnr. In barn windows are Sidney Kraatz on the left and Henry Kraatz. The horse hitched to the hayrake is used to move the corn husks out of the way. These were relished by the dairy herd as a special treat. Note the filled bags of corn leaning against barn wall. The corn was harvested and stored in the barn until the sheller was available.
