Description
DescriptionA fete was held for the Technical College at the Central Gardens in October 1907. It opened on the evening of Thursday 10th until the evening of Saturday 12th October. The fete coincided with the opening of the College’s electrical laboratory, that was located in the basement of the college’s building (corner of Limestone and Ellenborough Streets. The event was attended by Queensland Governor Lord Chelmsford and Lady Chelmsford. The stalls filled the Central Gardens, and were lighted by electric light during the evenings. All stalls were photographed by photographer Benjamin Taylor before they opened, and prints were made available by the first evening. The Japanese stall was run by Laura Lydia Taylor and Josie Bytheway, with the assistance of Laura Jane Taylor and Misses J. Campbell, M. Nunn, K. Shine, D. Shine, Gill, Haenke, K. McGill, Welsh, Roberts, and others. This image is part of the Benjamin and Laura Taylor, I.X.L. Studio collection.
