DescriptionJames was a dentist in Ipswich and was a prisoner of war in Changi during World War II. He was Mayor of Ipswich from 1950-1972, and an alderman from 1949-1950 and in 1973. He married Merle Stephenson in 1934 and after her death married Phyllis Margaret Tunstall in 1972. Phyllis was the daughter of Thomas Tunstall, alderman from 1933 to 1939. She was previously married to Ernest Boulter, a Clerk of Petty Sessions, who died in 1936.
