DescriptionPortrait of James ‘Jim’ Thomas Finimore, who was Mayor of Ipswich from 1950 - 1972, and an alderman 1949 - 1950 and 1973. He was a dentist in Ipswich and at one time had his dental practice above the Public Trustee building in Brisbane Street. He became a prisoner of war in Changi during World War II. Jim and Merle Graham Finimore (nee Stephenson) married in 1934. Merle was the daughter of a former Mayor of Ipswich, Alfred Tully Stephenson and Nellie (Ellen) O’Brien. After Merle’s death in the 1970s, he married Phillis Margaret Boulter (nee Tunstall), daughter of Thomas Tunstall, alderman from 1933-1939.
